Sensory Garden, frieze mural, El Segundo Public Library, Jovi Schnell

Jovi Schnell & Creative Gardeners - Community that helped shape the designs of the mural, Sensory Garden, Painted frieze mural, 3 x 33 ft, El Segundo Public Library, Los Angeles, CA 2023

The creation of the Sensory Garden frieze/mural involved a board game that I invented called ANYTHING GROWS! Part scavenger hunt- part collage workshop, the players translated their findings from the Seed Cards from the game onto paper flowers. The players results continued to be shaped by the Action Cards of the game in my studio forming the basis for the works co-created imagery.

1: a string of daises with stems linked to form a chain

2: an interlinked series of computer peripherals

This mural departs from the definitions of Daisy Chain to create a new hybridized Plant whose forms and cross-sections evoke the signaling and processing of communication. Toggling between the language of digital networks, plants and the human form, the playful and semiabstract networks of this organism seek to express a new Primordial Plant whose schematic branches give way to protean realms.
